"Can you see this kind of "U" shaped scar on the side of my face right here between my sideburn and left eye?" he asked the two of us in orange aprons.
"Yeah, a little bit" we replied.
"That's from a chain saw. It cut me five times moving up from my jaw to my temple. It went down to my cheek bone on that last cut and it took the doctor over 150 stitches to patch it up. Luckily, he had been practicing plastic surgery in his spare time out there. We were so far from town that he was my only chance at help." the grizzled country man said.
"Wow" was the only word we could fathom that would fit his statement.
"That's why I'm gettin' this here polesaw. High tree limbs and a chainsaw don't tempt me anymore. It was a good thing that doctor had been practicing. I was the first person he had performed that kind of work on. I wouldn't let him knock me out cuz' I wanted to see what he has adoin'. After awhile he asked me to shut m' eyes, said I was makin' 'im nervous or somethin'. I just laughed at him and told 'im to get ta work."
"That's crazy..." we said.
"Well, I been stitched up plenty o' times and never once took no anethesia. My mom didn't have any on hand most o' the time." the graybeard remarked as he wound up for the next story...
