I've realized that any time you make a change with a major corporation, you had best be ready to spend some time on the phone making sure they got it right. In the recent past, I've:

  • Spoken to NewEgg 6 times on the phone and emailed with them 3 times regarding a phone order and plan activation. I received the phone on time after some cajoling, but still didn't have the options I requested which leads me to the next set of problems.
  • Spoken to Cingular about media plans for my new phone only to find out that the phone I have is too sophisticated for the cheap plans and that my best options run from $29.99 to $44.99 for the services I thought would be $19.99. I went with no data for $4.99. These charges are on top of the phone plan which was very reasonable.
  • Spoken to my former cable/internet company. Well, that's a bit of a stretch. I cancelled our service on June 8th only to receive a bill today for $122. After sitting on hold for 55 oh-s0-precious daytime minutes, the lady on the other end assured me that their bills had printed before my changes had registered in the system and I had a balance of $.04 which she would gladly remove for me. Talk time: 2 minutes. I'm glad the new phone has a speakerphone on it.
  • Spoken to my vehicle maintenance company 5 times about the charges I've received since December that should have been free since I'm a carrier of their card. I've also spent a grand total of 6 hours in their lobby in the last month getting said services performed. Needless to say, me and Peggy are tight now and she's working on it.

So, I've changed cable and phone services and all it cost me was roughly 6 hours of my time. I guess it pays out in the end when you consider I'm now getting more services on both sides and paying less for them. When it comes down to time or money, I'll always spend the time, but every now and then, it just gets a little ridiculous. Holding on the line is a first-rate beat-down and a very effective tactic.

Other than my being a pest to those systems that can't seem to provide the convenience they promise, my little sister is expecting her first child in two to three weeks. We'll have a better idea on Thursday of when that day might be. Hayden Danny is getting closer and closer to breathing air for the first time. Rascal.

love you.
